Its a......

Vincens!!!!  that's right the baby is showing his/her stubborn Vincens genes already!!!  We don't want to know the sex yet, my friend Marta compared it to peeking at your Christmas gifts, so that wasn't the problem... the dr knows.  The problem was the silly baby kept its back to us so we couldn't see the face.  No matter how many times and how hard {ow!!} the dr poked at my belly the silly, stubborn thing would not turn around. So I go back in 2 weeks to see the face...  I'd post pix but I don't think y'all are interested in seeing the brain and femur, LOL!!

Off to Spain in a couple of hours, take care!

Just a Little Update...

Hi all, I thought that I'd just give a run down on what's been going on around here.  Its HOT!!  Its like we skipped spring and hopped right into summer in 3 days!!  Over the weekend we were in sweaters, heavy pants and jackets and yesterday it was shorts and sunblock!!!  I gotta admit the boys look cute with their skinny little legs and knobby knees!  The sunblock dance is not fun though.  If you've put it on a child you know the drill, trying to rub it in while holding one of their hands, pulling them towards you as they back away steadily to avoid the goop!  All the while you've gotta keep the darn stuff out of their hair and off their clothes {man that stuff stains!} but at the same time not missing any spots!

Hmm... what else is new..?

I just found out that the poor man has been living in a whole or under a rock or something for the last 30 years!!  How did he, living in a family of 6 boys, go this long with out seeing the original Star Wars movies?????  We went to the new one the other night and there was so much he didn't know, I was shocked!!  I mean its been 10 years since I saw the old ones and some details are fuzzy, but there's basic things EVERYONE knows!!  Not Matthieu!!  The movie was great, my fav of the new 3 but I still prefer the oldies!!  I loved that he kept everything like the old ones, the hairstyles and Darth Vader's 70 style controls!!  Oh and PadmĂ©'s maternity clothes rawked!!!  Wondering where I can get me some of those...

After the movie we went out for oysters and lobster.  Matthieu couldn't just go to Amarine which is just beside the theatre, he had to go to La Lorraine downtown Luxembourg to get his oysters.  The restaurant was unbelievably loud, I was suprised that a classy restaurant wouldn't kick rude people out, instead all the other tables cleared out!  On top of that they had no Canadian lobster left!!  Grrr!

Matthieu is also jealous that the boys and I got to go Spain so we are leaving again on Saturday for a week.  Fancy oysters and trips to Spain, and he says the boys are spoiled...

Let's see... me...
I've gotten to that stage where I can basically not wear regular clothes any more but maternity clothes make me look enormous and tent-like!!  This baby has grown so much in the last month, I feel like I'm going to topple over.  I do have regular clothes on today, I'm so glad the trend this spring { in France anyway} is flowy bohemian things so I've got an ample tank top that has a no-tent look!  22 week ultra sound tomorrow.

He gets smoke, dust, mist and steam mixed up and can't tell when to use which word.  Well, today he pointed out all the people that were *steaming*!!!  He meant smoking of course, and there are sooooo many people in France that smoke.  On the way to preschool this morning it seemed everyone had one hanging out of their mouths and it was only 8:30!!!  Ick!

His favourite thing these days is identifying all the vehicles, and there are so many on the way too and from school over the bridge!!  Totos {motorcycles} and choochoos are his favourite and are pretty plentiful, La yo yehs {Land Rovers} come next, but they are far more rare!!  Tassees {Taxis} are a new favourite since he started watching the fast cars and totos in the French movie Taxi.  Thank goodness for bye eeks {bikes} because they are everywhere and he can get in to such a tizzy if he doesn't find something exciting, and I can always point out a bike to make him calm down that Irish temper of his!!

Happy Thursday all... such a great one!

Just keepin' the cobwebs away here on the old Vincens blog.  Its been Anthony's birthday month for 24 days now and I only just made his banner!!  Oh, that pic of me... my friend Gail, her husband is a photographer and took that.  Normally, I HATE my profile and cringed when he took this one.  Funny, turned out to be one of my faves!!

Nautical Festival in Basse Ham

Matthieu had mentioned this 'fĂȘte' but I really didn't think much of it.  Yesterday morning he took the boys out for a bike ride so I could clean the shower and scrapbook etc, finished this!!  I was expecting them back late morning so that Anthony could have a short sleep before lunch.  About 5 minutes before I decided that I would start worrying the phone rings, they are in Basse Ham at the festival.  I shouldn't expect them before 1:30 because they are taking a sail!!  Ok, for those who don't know, Basse Ham is about 5 kms from our house along the river, Jacques biked 5kms!!!!!  Sheesh, just a month ago this kid still had his training wheels on!  Don't worry they took the path the whole way, it leaves from behind Matthieu's warehouse so the poor little guy wasn't in traffic.  He had a bit of help from Dad on the way home, but my little athlete biked about 10K yesterday!!!

an afternoon with Eloise

Ok, so I wanted to post this a lot sooner, but I ended up having to scan these photos 3 times, because little fingers kept turning off the computer before I got around to saving them!!  Don't tell me the benefits of digital, I don't want to hear it, lol!!

EloiseOur visit with Eloise was so nice.  It's been awhile since we've seen her because now that she's at the Red Cross the boys can't go to her room like they could at the hospital in Dijon.  So one of us had to keep them entertained while the other visited with Eloise.  On top of that she gets upset when she's sees us ther without one of her parents, because she knows that means they aren't coming, that's hard too, when we only have a bit of time with her and she cries for the first half.

This time Franck w3_kids_walkas there so she was outside with him (only parents can take her out on the grounds).  She looked so great, just her oxygen tube to give her away as 'different'  She showed us around the grounds and we went for a walk and the boys had a lot of fun with her.  It was the first time that Jacques actually was able to play with her and really the first time Anthony really got to see her as its been almost a year since they have been able to see her.  Jacques_points_2

The boys were great, they really didn't shy away from the fact that she was 'different'.  Jacques had questions but accepted the answers and Eloise for what they were...

Light_sabor_1 The boys love Fonk Fonk {as Jacques calles him} or Fronk Fronk Fronk {Anthony's mimic of Jacqes' version}.  He's always goofing around with them and tossing them in the air and he's just a very fun uncle!!Tony_and_franck   Actually, on the way to Compiegne {where Franck is living and future location of the rest of the Dijon gang} in the car, Franck and Matthieu were just chatting, probably about work.  Jacques asked why Fonk Fonk wasn't being silly!!

Tony_and_eloise_1 She definitely has that Vincens spirit.  I tend to think that just because she can't talk and she's in a med. centre that she's this calm demure angel!  She's a stinker, just like my boys!!  Franck had given her a bath and a nurse came in to put in her feeding tube, Franck wanted to wait the 3 minutes it would take to dry her off and dress her and the nurse kept on insisting that she needed to do it right away.  Franck won and while he was dressing Eloise, she kept pointing at the nurse and making the sign for foolish.  The nurse had no idea, but Franck and I sure did, I couldn't look at him...  Then later, another nurse was doing the routine nightly checks with Eloise on her bed.  Eloise kept asking for her slippers, didn't want to wear her shoes, because they don't go with pj's.  She had Franck and I and the foolish nurse searching the whole room over, no slippers!!  Then when her checks were done, she hopped off the bed walked over to a little drawer where she had hid her slippers then proceeded to call us all foolish!!  She's a riot!!Thionville_gang_and_eloise

This morning I woke up a little before 7 to a small noise outside my bedroom.  My first thought was that it was Jacques, up for the day, but he had gotten up earlier and fell back asleep in our bed.  Then, I thought it was the bird having his breakfast, but the sound was too close to be coming from teh birdcage.  Then, I heard the telltale 'kwee, kwee, kwee' of Anthony's bottle nipple (he doesn't like pacifiers, but loves his bottle nipple).  I hadn't thought of him because I forgot that he could get out of bed by himself now that he's in the *big boy* bed.  This is the first time he's woken up before me since the switch.

I said 'come in Anthony' and I heard the slap slap of his teeny feet on the hardwood and he came in and climbed up in the bed with me.  I held him close and he said 'Hi Mama' and took his hand and placed it on my cheek and rubbed my face.

Pure sweetness.

Musical beds

Well, I think we've all slept in about 16 beds in the last 24 hours!!  Ok, I'm exaggerating, but not by much.  We left Franck after visiting with Eloise {more on her later} at about 11 pm so the boys and I started out night in the car.  About an hour later Jacques woke up with this annoying whiny cry, but we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him.  Once we got home {almost 2ish} everyone went in their own beds until about an hour later, Jacques woke up again, whiny.  He came with us and fell asleep, but he must have woken up Anthony because he started crying.  I went in and instead of us all squishing in our bed I took him out of the crib and cuddled in his *big boy* bed.  A couple of hours later I heard Jacques and Matthieu in the kitchen so I switched with Matthieu so he could sleep after the long drive.  He did have to work this morning {unlike a lot of other lazy French people, LOL}.  He went in Jacques' bed and I took Jacques back to our bed where he slept in until 10:15!!!

Anyway the point to this tale... and there is one...  Anthony woke up in his *big boy* bed this morning happy as a lark and when it was time for his morning nap he headed right for it and again this afternoon.  He's in there now as the boys are in bed for the night...  He's no longer nervous of it, but knows he's a big boy!!  now, if we could only master the potty thing...

Half way

So here I am at 20 weeks, can't believe I've only that to go again before I'm the mom of 3 and have a teeny new baby to coo over and love.  Its seemed to go by super fast, but at the same time, I feel like I've been pregnant for quite a while, too.  Til now, its been pretty easy, not much weight gain, no morning sickness (I've got something worse coming to me, I know it!), and little discomfort whatsoever.  I've been lucky.  I'm thinking this weekend I'll ask Matthieu to take down my maternity clothes, so far hipster pants are working wonderfully and the ones I'm wearing today are a regular, non-maternity size 7 (or 38 french) can you believe that!!  But, many of my shirts are no longer cutting it and barely meet the top of my pants.  I think the weight gain thing has been the most shocking, since I was as big as a house by this time with both the boys.  Ah well, I've been craving sweets a lot this week so I won't stay at 8lbs for much longer, teehee!!

The baby has been moving a lot today, its such a cool feeling.  The movements are getting stronger and more often.  This is the fun part before the rib kicking, bladder squishing begins!!

A quick update

I haven't written much in the last few days so I thought I give you a bit of a summary of what's been going on.

Almost_2_1 Anthony's party was such a lot of fun!!  The kids all played well together and the adults all behaved themselves.  We were so glad that Anne-Charlotte, Laurent and their kids were able to come all the way from Gien and Franck spent most of his day driving as he left early that morning with Mathilde and Baptiste to go see Eloise, then they drove here and then left at 11pm to drive all the way back to Dijon.  He got an easel with white board, chalkboard and paper, which he loves, his little bike with no pedals and lots of books, plus Thomas and Spiderman stuff, one very happy birthday boy.  Photos are ready tomorrow!

Two_wheelin Jacques is the king of two wheels, his agility in all things sporty never ceases to amaze me.  Don't mind the hat under the helmut, its just Matthieu's way of keeping the dust out of Jacques' tubes in case he fell.

Matthieu is doing well, still working too hard and too much, but he does take time to relax from time to time!!

I have been feeling a lot better.  I went to the doctor today who gave me some meds but I chose not to take them, things seemed to have sorted themselves out.  I did lose about 1.5 lbs, but since I gained 2 overall since my last appt.  he wasn't worried.  Heard the hearbeat, came home had a two hour nap, then cleaned house!!  20 weeks now, half way!!

Happy First Mother's Day Nicole

And happy Mother's Day to Mom, and all the mothers in North America!!!   It's not Mother's Day here until the end of the month, so I sort of get two days!!

Here's a little surprise for my fabulous sister!!
