Most people think that I'm crazy to fly alone with 4 kids, but to be honest with you. It's a lot easier than flying with that 5th bigger kid, if you know who I mean ;) If I'm the only adult, I'm the only boss and we can do things my way ;) I love to fly and so do my kids. 9 times out of 10 it means we are going home to Nova Scotia :D
My kids are really good fliers, but at the same time the need something to occupy them, the flights are long and so are the layovers. It doesn't take much to keep them busy, once Philippe coloured the same page for almost an hour. I usually prepare something new, something wrapped, something fun, but most importantly something that will keep them busy for a long time :) Most times it's art supplies. Last time we went to NS was no exception. I made each boy an art on the go tote. They had picked their own fabric but they didn't know what it was for. When they got on the plane they were allowed to take out their wrapped gift but they weren't allowed to open it until we took off. Let me tell you, the wheels weren't a foot in the air and the wrapping paper was flying!! They all loved the totes and inside they found a handmade notebook, new pencil crayons, a scribbler, a pen, a pencil and a sharpener, drawing paper a new book and an Ed Emberley drawing book. These books are fantastic to teach kids how to draw all kinds of things and they are very much geared towards boys and their interests. Once the excitement wore off they got busy and they really did have a fun time creating. Jacques called over to me from his window seat, 'Mama, you are the best mama maker in the world!' LOVE that!!
Tom also got one for his birthday last year and my little cousins, Mitchell and Quinn, and my nephew, Dean, each got one for Christmas as well.
The art supplies have long been used up but we still use the totes. I snagged Anthony's for taking my knitting in the car, Jacques uses his for his music and trumpet books and Philippe will use his to take his webkinz and books on long car rides.
PS Make sure you come back tomorrow for our very first giveaway!!
